Introduction:

Getting Past the First Few Levels in Soda Sort

I’ve been playing Soda Sort on and off for a couple of weeks now, and it’s one of those puzzle games that feels deceptively simple. The core idea is to sort colored water layers into separate glasses until each glass holds only one color. You tap a glass to pick it up, then tap another to pour – but only if the target glass has enough empty space and the top layer matches the color you’re pouring. No timers, no penalties, just you and a bunch of half-filled glasses. It’s relaxing at first, but once you hit level 40 or so, the challenge sharpens noticeably.

The Real Gameplay Loop – More Than Just Tapping

What makes Soda Sort addictive isn’t the sorting itself – it’s the spatial reasoning. You have to plan ahead because you can’t undo a pour. If you pour a dark blue into a glass that already has a lighter blue underneath, you’ll trap yourself later. I’ve restarted levels more times than I’d like to admit. The one-finger control is genuinely responsive; no lag, no mis-taps. But here’s the catch: the game doesn’t give you any hints. When you’re stuck, you either restart or stare at the screen for five minutes trying to visualize the solution. That’s fine for some, but it can feel punishing if you’re not in the mood for deep thinking.

What I Like – And What Gets Old

The biggest draw is the lack of pressure. You can pick up Soda Sort for two minutes or two hours – it doesn’t matter. The levels are bite-sized, and the soft color palette is easy on the eyes. But after fifty levels, the patterns start repeating. You’ll see the same color combinations and glass arrangements, just shuffled differently. The difficulty curve is weird: some levels are trivial, then a sudden spike that requires ten restarts. Also, there’s no way to skip a level if you’re truly stuck. You have to solve it or give up on that level forever. That’s a real limitation for players who prefer a more casual experience.

Honest Limitations You Should Know Before Downloading

I’ve noticed a few quirks that aren’t mentioned in the store description. First, the game has no undo button – one wrong pour means restarting the whole level. Second, the later levels occasionally generate unsolvable configurations (yes, I’ve checked online forums, and others confirm this). When that happens, you have to restart and hope the randomizer gives you a solvable setup. And third, while the game is free, you’ll see an ad after every few levels. It’s not intrusive, but it breaks the flow. If you want ad-free, you’ll need to pay a small fee. Overall, it works well as a casual brain teaser, but don’t expect a polished, perfectly balanced puzzle experience.
